Farmers Market Price Reports

The Lincoln Haymarket farmers market in Lincoln, Neb. Photo by Russell Shaffer

Intro

The Farmers Market Price Report compares high, low, and average prices of select fruits and vegetables for each month of the market season. Compiling information from markets in Omaha, Lincoln, Kearney and McCook, the reports help you compare the prices from small-scale farmers and first-time market vendors to see what you can expect to receive for goods month to month as production ebbs and flows with each season. Also, when deciding between a grocery store or a farmers market, you can use the reports to help you more accurately balance cost, ease of access, and freshness of produce to meet your individual and family's needs.

See the full reports below by month.

Data was collected by trained volunteers who attended weekly markets in Lincoln, Omaha, Kearney and McCook. Given the wide range in units used at local markets, our focus has been on providing reports that compare prices for the same unit. Raw data was cleaned by identifying the most frequent unit used to sell that item and eliminating prices that did not use that unit. As a result, average prices are calculated with only those items with matching units, while the number of vendors includes all vendors selling that item, regardless of the unit used. Due to limited availability of volunteers, July data is from the Sunday Farmers Market at College View (Lincoln), Old Market Farmers Market (Omaha) and the Aksarben Farmers Market (Omaha).

1Weeks at market is a cumulative total from the first week of data collection, May 4th through August 2025.

2Asparagus was no longer available at local markets after June 29th. See the May and June 2025 reports for more info on asparagus pricing.
